Alexander - Working with Local Government

Our understanding
Despite the relative prosperity that local government has had over the past 16 years, they are now entering a time of uncertainty. The need to reduce budgets, the pressure to deliver efficiencies, the drive to share services and deliver ‘Big Society’ solutions are just some of the challenges facing local government.
For that reason, chief executives will have to take difficult decisions about future funding priorities with their budget reduced by 33%. However, if we just focus on saving money without a detailed understanding of what communities and service users need, we will fail to provide them with the council services they require. We believe that councils should transform and redesign their services from a customer perspective.
We are working with councils and their partners across the UK to help them bring about transformational change and step up to the challenge of providing the services service-users need and value whilst delivering the required financial savings.

“Braintree District Council had been reluctant in the past to engage with consultants in any major way, never having been convinced of the added value external consultants can bring. We approached the partnership with Alexander initially as a capacity issue, but have developed a good working relationship with them acting as a critical friend with solutions. It has been of value to me personally by offering a different perspective, as well as a driver to achieve our goals. The most important issue is to ensure that everyone understands the role and purpose both from the consultants’ and the organisation’s viewpoint.”
Allan Reid, Chief Executive,
Braintree District Council
